A Little More About Myself…
I know that everyone is aware that I am the great niece of Lib Dooley, and that her father was the first president of the original Red Sox fan club called the Royal Rooters. However, there is a little more to the history of my passion than that. My father learned how to hit from Ted Williams himself. He went from being the ninth hitter on his little league team to playing Single-A baseball with the then Kansas City Athletics. The town in which I live, Holliston Massachusetts, also has a long baseball history. It has been said that the poem "Casey at the Bat" originated from the old baseball leagues that were in existence in my town at that time. The Red Sox awarded my great grandfather a diamond ring when they won the world series in 1918, which I proudly wore throughout the entire playoffs in 2004. After the Yankees defeated us in game 3 of the 2004 ALCS, I wrote a poem called, "Why Not Us?" in which I encouraged all Red Sox fans to keep the faith and to never give up. On the morning of game 4, I proceeded to hand in this poem to my teacher, Mrs. Miracle. I also snuck out of class a few times to hang up anti-Yankees posters on the walls of my school. When they finally won it all, I cried. All I could think about was how my Great Aunt had been so dedicated and had never got to see what I was watching at that moment. It made me feel as if I didn’t deserve it; not then, not yet.
Overall, I am a Red Sox fan in every sense of the term. I live and die with every game, and I will never forget the passion that my Great Aunt Libby demonstrated towards baseball. Because when it comes down to it, the only thing that really matters is the love of the game.
Cheryl, your blog really hits home. I feel like you are one of the few true fans out there… for love of the game
good luck in the runnings
Cheryl:
It’s good to see it’s in your blood as it’s in mine.
i love you…
you are great
I doesn’t seem fair that all these famous people are competing against you.
Jerry Remy? Give me a break.
How about a normal average crazy sox fan like one of us?
Aren’t some of those candidates being paid to be associated with the sox..don’t they make a living from it?
You are the real thing. 100%
cheryllll you are THE most diehard and dedicated red sox fans i know!! you’re posts are awesomeee.. keep it up!
Well, I wanted to start by saying Natalie –youre not supposed to tell Cheryl you love her on her blog…I already tried.
And Cheryl you are pretty much the best candidate for the job so I have no doubt in my mind that you’ll get it π
You go, girl! You’d be the best prez ever.
Suzy Williams
I love reading your blog. You are definitely the best candidate. You have my vote 100%.
Cheryl congrats on top 10!! You are the biggest sox fan that i know! I hope that you get it becuase you will be amazing!!!!!!!!!!
Cheryl!…great history you are the BEST Red Sox fan!!!!!! keep up the faith!
Cheryl!!! You go girl!!! here me screaming like in the good old soccer days!!!!!
Cheryl,
Though I grew up in Upstate New York, I was not a Yankees Fan. The Tigers were my team! I listened to and boxscored every Detroit Tigers game. I loved Al Kaline, Harvy Kueen and the boys like you seem to love the Sox. That kind of love knows no end and you seem emminently qualified to lead Bentley college, lead your state, lead New England, and lead the Red Sox nation into making the rest of the MLB see red, which IS the color of your hair! Watching you on the soccer field I know that you have a huge heart and QUITE the kick!
Cheers,
Otterob from Rhode Island
Great blog- you are a true fan that should win because your blog is based 100% on passion for the sox – not because it is related to your job or past job.
Cheryl:
You mentioned that you felt that you didn’t deserve to see the Red Sox win the World Championship in 2004 as you had not felt enough pain. Between your Great Grand Father, your Great Aunt Lib and me we have tried to genetically pass on certain pain molecules that would permantly “taint” your view of the Boston Red Sox. However, your DNA is tough. None of those molecules survived. I am so glad that you watch and support them as a true friend. You don’t expect them to collapse each and every fall like us old dudes. You don’t get exhasperated when they make mistakes or hit into a double play. And you know what? You are right! They broke the curse in 2004 forever! Red Sox Nation needs you. I’m sure Libby is very proud of you. I sure am.
Dad
Cheryl,
What’s going on lil sis!! I still can’t believe your in the running for the best job in the world. I’m not surprised either though as you’re more diehard a fan than anyone I know. Good luck and let’s hope we can sweet them Rays this weekend!!
Mike
Cheryl, good luck. I have a question for you and maybe you could outline your position a little better. I am intrigued by Big Pupi’s promise to push for a section K-9 at Fenway. As a new puppy owner I am interested in what your position vis a vis K-9 Red Sox fans is.
While I love animals and have always wanted a dog myself, I find it hard to support a section K-9 dedicated to fans and thier dogs. First off, it seems that the main concern that Red Sox fans have is the limited number of seating at Fenway and the difficulty of obtaining tickets. It would be hard for me to see spaces where dedicated fans could be sitting being taken up by dogs. Also, problems could arise if people were allergic to dogs, if a dog became a nuisance or danger to other fans or their dogs as well, or if the dogs needed to relieve themselves. I know that there have been some clubs who have had “Bring Your Dog to the Park” days, which I would definately support looking into. Overall, though, I think that all the seating capacity available at Fenway has to be made available to the most important people: the fans.
I heard the poem, it was good. Mudville for life.
CHERYL,

Hey Cheryl!
Libby would be so proud. Yay for redheaded Red Sox fans! I’ll be voting and getting everyone I know to vote for you.
Love,
Bri
Who better to hold the reigns of the great Red Sox nation, than the great niece of Libby Dooley, who is perhaps one of the greatest Red Sox fans of all time. I personally know a small portion of their family and know its unyielding commitment to the Sox. You deserve it Cheryl, GO SOX!
What Brianne said! Congrats on making the top ten – I thought Bri was a diehard fan (after all, she’s the reason I threw over ol’ Squarehead Jeter…for Whinypants Garciaparra oops, and I plead temporary insanity for even thinking Jeter was cute, since that was while I was at a women’s college – tell me that wouldn’t make anyone go insane) but wow. Good luck!
as a resident of new york city, but born and raised as a true sox fan, i’ve got to rely on the strength of the red sox nation when i wear my sox hat out to the bronx.
i cant think of a better candidate to uphold the spirit of boston fans than cheryl boyd, a true unbiased friend of the team and the sport.
Keep those Royal Rooters alive. You’re doing a great job!!!
Cheryl, you inspire me, I hope you get the Presidency. I know you’ll do a great job.
Congrats Cheryl! π
Just wanted to tell you that I love your devotion to the Red Sox and the game. Your blogs are wonderful to read. I am convinced that you would be the best Pres. they ever would have. P.S. Your one of us. Not a writer, sports caster, talk show host or an upaty up. Keep up the good work.
What happened to the season tickets that Libby had for all of those years??
The seats are still in my family, and my dad and my uncle split them. I manage to get to about 5 games a year. The seats are also now in the 3rd row because of the 2 extra rows that the Red Sox put in front of the seats.
They said on the documentary that you were in that your aunt had her tickets since the 1940’s, but your great grandfather had them since 1912. Awesome. What other candidate can say they are part of a die-hard family like you are. I hope you schooled them in the debates like a real Royal Rooter!!!!
Cheryl,
I actually had your Aunt as a teacher many years ago. If you got her started on the Sox forget it she would go on forever about them and if you knew their positions you were golden. Good luck in your pursuit.
I have but one lamp wait which my feet are guided; and that is the lamp of experience. I know of no way of judging of the future but by the past. Do you think so? http://www.nicetick.com
