About royalrooter

I’m Cheryl Boyd, and I’m sure like many of
you out there I have been a Red Sox fan for as long as I’ve
lived. I am a fourth generation Royal Rooter, which was a
club started back when the Sox first started out and was led
by Michael T. “Nuf Ced” McGreevy. My Great Aunt, Elizabeth
Dooley, was ranked as the number 3 sports fans of all time on
ESPN’s Top 10 Sports Fans list. I will always remember
attending games with her where she would always give me one
of her treasured business cards. They read: “Elizabeth ‘Lib’
Dooley – Friend of the Boston Red Sox.” We all know that
there is something that sets us Red Sox fans apart from all
other fans in the world of sports. I believe that my great
aunt described it best when she preferred to be called a
friend, rather than a fan, of the Red Sox. She felt that fans
were “come-and-go,” but that friends truly cared about the
well-being of another friend. If I am elected President of
Red Sox Nation, I will look to incorporate this mindset into
the nation and make it the backbone of the group. I grew up
in Holliston, Mass and went to my first Red Sox game when I
was 4. I sat on my Dad’s lap next to my Great Aunt Libby, and
I’ve loved the Red Sox ever since. Now, I go to school at
Bentley College and play for the women’s soccer team there. I
wear #9 to honor “the greatest hitter that ever lived,” Ted
Williams. He was very good friends with my Great Aunt Libby,
and he also gave my Dad personal batting lessons. I love
going to school so close to Boston and being around the chaos
that is Red Sox Nation, especially in September and October.
All in all, I am a proud member of Red Sox
Nation!
